Me at Urbanfest 09

It's been a long time since the last time I wrote here. Many things happened of course.
Last yesterday I finally play on stage again (at last!!). It's been quite a long time since the last time I play on stage in front of many people (In Javarockinland if I'm not mistaken).
Anyway, I played in event called Urbanfest 09. It's located in pasar seni, Ancol, North-Jakarta. A lot of street cultures shows there. Things like skateboard, low-rider-bike, street basket, parkour (I'm not sure what is it?), and many mores.
Me and my band, Idealego, have to performed at movie stage.
It's quite awesome. Lots of white screen (since it's a movie stage yo!). Unfortunately, we are unable to use it cause we have to perform at 4.00 pm. And it's still sunrise so it's useless to put some video in that white screen.
Damn! What a waste!
The stage itself it's not so big. We only got three monitors. Yeah I repeat it, ONLY THREE MONITORS!
So we have to share each monitors. I have to share monitors with my bassist. I share a little with the other guitarist. We let the vocal have one monitors so the vocalist can sing it out loud without interruption from other instruments.
Finally 4.00 pm, it's showtime!!
I use fender telecaster for this show (thanx for my friend, Rendy Diodianto, for lending me this awesome guitar ;) ). We play it nice and cool. Although there are not many people watched us, but we don't care. We just play as if thousands people are watching us.
At the third song, I realize that in front of the crowd, there is a man that keep headbangin, follow the song's rhyme. Suddenly, he moves forward 'till the edge of stage and shows his hand to me. So I give him 'five' while playing with my guitar. That was so Rock 'n' Roll! Hell Yeahh!!
Thanx die-hard-fans! Whoever you are :) we salute you.
After 20 minutes, we finally end up our show. Many people cheers and salutes us (this is what I like in a concert)
I went to the dressing room to change my outfit. My friend help me pack up my riders (thanx a lot chie! you really give me a hand there).
After saying goodbye to other members of band, I went to some japanese restaurant nearby with my girlfriend. She has an event with his collegue there. I ate shabu-shabu. It was very delicious.
At 9.00 pm, I went back to pasar seni to watch a friend of mine perform. His name is Depe Gabe and he has a band called Tembang Pribumi which always cover traditional music (with their own style of course).
Depe sure is one of best bassist that I ever known. His skills and techniques were so amazing. The rest members of the band are so amazing too. They play songs like 'cublak-cublak suweng', 'gundul pacul', with some kind of jazzy tunes. Combine with traditional intruments like angklung and gamelan. It's so great. They even bring 'Dalang' to performed with them!
For you who doesn't know, 'Dalang' is a person who plays kind-of-puppet called 'wayang'. The different is, wayang made from leather so usually it's called 'wayang kulit'.
At 10.00 pm I had to drive my girl home. So I say goodbye to my friend and went outside pasar seni.
What a night to remember.

Here's some of the snapshots. Enjoy :)

Stop This Train

Sometimes I think life is like taking a train. I mean, like train, life is all about moving forward. You never see train moves backwards right? (of course this is a silly question. No need to answer this)
No matter how hard we tried, we can't turn back time.
I know that if someone asked what does he want the most, most often he/she would choose to go back to the past.
I know that.
Because I want it too.
I wish I could go back to my past.
Back to time when I'm still a little boy.

I remember when I'm still a 6th year old (or older), my mom used to submit me to a piano lesson. I refused because I think piano is a girl stuff. There's nothing manly about piano (as far as I remember that time). The decision that I regret it now. Maybe if I took that piano lesson I would become a great composer right now. Making a beautiful music like Matthew Bellamy or Mike Einziger. Well at least I could impress young chicks that watch me play. There is a friend of mine name reza, or many people like to call him 'omo', he took that piano lesson when he still a child. Now he play keboard in a band called pee wee gaskin. That band quite popular in my town, although I'm not the fan of the band.

Back when I'm still in junior and senior high, I never like subjects like maths and physics. No matter how hard I'm trying to learn it, I never be able to master it completely. Well I'm at science class when I'm in third grade of senior high. I graduate with score 8.5 for math and I got average 9 from three subjects. Most people will think that I'm smart enough to calculate the relativity theory. To be honest, I got good grade because my math teacher was the creator of the math test in my country (we used to call it 'Ujian Akhir Nasional' or 'UAN'). The day before the test, he gave us sample of the test for tomorrow. With different numbers and possible answers but the methods of how-to-solve-the problem- is still the same. Well not so genius after all right?

Now I'm in 5th semesters of mechanical engineering study. I deal with a lot of math, physics, and some chemistry problems. Instead of becoming a hard-scary-don't want to be- subjects, those subjects are become my favorites now. I learn step by step from beginning and it turns out to be fun. I now understand that there is no shortcut in math and physics. The only fast solution is how fast can you calculate. I wish I knew about this earlier. Maybe I would become an Olympiad participant for math or physics. Who knows?

We all have some mistakes in the past that we like to fix.
But as I said, life is never turning back.
We may remember about our past mistakes and learn it for the future. so hopefully we don't repeat the same mistakes again.
Like John Mayer song 'Stop This Train'

Stop this train
I wanna get off
And go home again
I can't take the speed it's moving in
I know I can't
But honestly, won't someone stop this train?

Remember it, and fix it on the way.
There is no stopping, no turning back, and there is no shortcut to happiness.
Definitely.

3 World's Greatest Leader

This is funny joke that I had from someone's note.
I copy it and I think it would be cool if I post it here.
Although it is written in Indonesia, I do hope you can still enjoy it (I don't know how though :))
Anyway, enjoy!

seluruh Rakyat Cina pun bergembira, lalu Hu jintao melanjutkan Pidatonya lagi

Life through a tattoo

I used to hate people with tattoo. My first Impression when I see such a person is "Wow look at that. he looks like a gangster or thug. Maybe he is a fugitive from big-cruel-secret-such an organitation or something".
I definitely hate a tattoed person (or person with tattoo I think).
But that's long time a go.
Now I see it with different way.
I begin to love a tattoo.
Maybe this is an impact from playing music.
I saw many musicians, artists, even a hollywood superstars have a tattoo.
The tattoos are beautifull.
Absolutely awesome.
As far as I know, a person's tattoo has a meaning. Every person has a different tattoo meaning.
Most tattoo has important and unique meaning according to a person's life.
Here's my favourite. It's from Brandon Boyd. Singer and songwriter of incubus

The first one is a picture of Koi Fish.
The Koi Fish is symbolic in the Buddhist Religion, representing courage. Humans ’swim’ through the ‘ocean of suffering’ without fear, just like a fish swims through water.
The next one is a Tibetan mantra, “Om Mani Padme Hum”.
Its direct translation is “Hail the Jewel of the Lotus” and means, “The Sound That Strengthens Compasion in All Enlightened Beings”.

That's sound pretty good right? I suprise to know that how a tattoo can have such a deep meaning. It's absolutely huge.
Brandon is looking georgous with the tattoos.

You couldn't agree more right?

I used to have a 'Light Grenade' tattoo. But it's only temporarily.
My girlfriend (and both my parents) is forbid me to have a tattoo.
Yeah that sucks.
But hey, maybe I will have it someday.
well at least not in short time I guess.
Someday.. Sooner.. Later...
Just wait and see...

Today's Top News

Yesterday I watched television. I saw something that really disturbing me. It says that Malaysia used 'tari pendet' for their commercial. There is also big titles that say 'Visit Malaysia 2009' and 'Malaysia Truly Asia'. What a quite shocking news. We are from Indonesian know that 'tari pendet' is originally comes from Bali.
It is not the first time that Malaysia used Indonesian's cultures for their own. I still remember that Malaysia also claim that 'reog' (originally from Java) is their culture. They also claim 'wayang kulit' is from Malaysia!. Wow.. What is all about? What exactly is Malaysia want from these. What is their purpose?
I ask my dad "Dad.. Are we supposed to claim our cultures to UNICEF or something, so other country won't use our cultures for their own?"
My dad said "Nonsense! Everyone know that 'wayang, and tari pendet' are originally from Indonesia. Supposed we said that 'sushi and sumpit' are originally from Indonesia. Who will gonna believe it? Everyone know that they are from Japan. No need to claim it. It's just nonsense!"
I couldn't agree more with my dad. No need to claim for something that everyone knows. It's just a matter of respect.
Although that what Malaysia did is inapropriate, we need to see ourselves and ask "Do we care about our cultures if Malaysia doesn't use it for their tv commercial?"
I think we are not.
I think we do not know about our culture itself.
Our nationality is been asked now.
should we stand and pretend like nothing happen?
or we can keep preserve our culture by respecting it and proud of it.
Proud that we have a lot of beautiful and unique cultures not like any other contry could have.
The choice is on us.
